Polar Bear eating in seaside.

Till we live in the cities the bears appear to us as nice fluffies, which are fun to observe and need a lot of protection from people around them. The very moment one founds himself in the North, those furry cuties turn into scary monsters, and no one ever wants even to think of encountering with one.

Looking at such mountain of an animal one believes that it is hard to bring down with a single rifle bullet. These are the biggest land predators which do not have natural enemies. They are afraid of no one and behave correspondingly.

A lot of people share their terrible fear which seizes when one comes upon a white monster. Once you see it, every snowdrift and ice floe will appear to be an angry bear. People living within white bear’s habitat literally merge with weapons.

A polar bear is roaming about a harbor on the Kara Sea.Having looked over all the containers it decides to return home.Having admired to it’s heart’s content the scared people, fleeing from the site, it jumps in the water and swam away.

However, according to a local woman, there was only one lethal case with a polar bear in Amderma within her recollection. The others tell about the bears just sitting and watching people or rambling about the town, or even once licking the heels of a local fisherman, who had fallen asleep in the harbor.

A local diver shared the story of a walrus’ carcass lying on the beach for several days – it is the most popular incident among the Amderma locals.

Aromatic carcass, of course, attracted polar bears one by one as a magnet. While a bear was regaling itself with the fresh walrus delicacy, the local citizens, instead of hiding, were taking pictures of one another against the background of a predator. One can see how close they stood.

Maybe polar bears are not as dangerous as we think of them? Or maybe we don’t know something the locals are aware of? Maybe white fluffies are just too self-assured and does not flee when notice a firing and swearing specimen of homo sapiens species? Probably, the fear takes molehills for mountains.
